About the Photographer

Body Tape Oz is run by internationally published photographer Shaun Powell, who has been shooting for over a decade. Known for his eye for detail and expert retouching skills, Shaun specializes in capturing bold, artistic body tape photography that highlights the strength and confidence of his models.

The Origins of Body Tape Art

The black tape concept has gained international recognition, largely due to the work of Joel Alvarez, the creator of The Black Tape Project. Although he was not the first to experiment with black tape as an artistic medium, his work has propelled the style into the mainstream, making waves in fashion shows worldwide, including Miami Swim Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.

Joel, now known as Drakhan Blackhart, refers to his models as "dragons" and has built an impressive portfolio of work. In addition to his black tape designs, he runs exclusive photography events under the Paradise Challenge brand, bringing together models and photographers for high-end creative experiences.

In 2022, I had the opportunity to attend the Paradise Challenge Jamaica event, which celebrated 10 years of the project. This was the largest event to date, hosting hundreds of models and photographers as we took over a resort for an entire week. During this event, I was able to learn firsthand from Joel himself, gaining insights into the intricacies of working with tape and refining my own artistic approach to body tape photography.
